Eric M. Breindel (1955-1998) was a former editorial page editor of the New York Post. He was briefly married to Tamar Jacoby, in the 1980s. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, Harvard College and Harvard Law School before working in journalism. He died of liver failure, having suffered from health problems throughout adulthood. The paleoconservative Steve Sailer strongly critiqued him after his death, referring to Breindel's 1983 arrest for buying heroin, among other episodes, but Lawrence Auster defended Breindel against Sailer's charges. The Eric Breindel Award for Excellence in Opinion Journalism was established in his memory. (via Wikipedia)
